With the regime's progressive bankruptcy leading to a lack of gun ammunition, camp guards resorted to the use of gun bayonets to murder their victims. Between April of 1975 and January of 1979, the Khmer Rouge regime was responsible for the death of about 2 million people in Cambodia, in one of the most lethal regimes of the 20th century. 2019 marked the 40th anniversary of the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime.
