Mouleds in Egypt
The mouled is a religious festival, celebrated in honour of a saint (generally on the day of his birth) whose origins date back to the Fatimids (909-1174). This commemoration has a special place in Egypt, particularly among the various Sufi brotherhoods. Through the practice of collective Dhikr, believers share an emotional and mystical experience where the recitation of pious formulas, associated with musical instruments and a gyratory dance, allows them to reach a state of spiritual drunkeness, favouring the extinction of the ego and the supreme unification with God. Pictures were shot during mouled in Bathem (21/07/2021) and El Khanka (22/09/2021) areas.
