Ritual bath in Mahabalipuram
At Mahalipuram beach, right next to the Shore Temple dedicated to Shiva (7th century BC), Hindus perform a ritual bath during their pilgrimage. Many Indians do not know how to swim, so they prefer to stay on the shore or make human chains to go and enjoy the waves. The women wear colourful yellow and red saris, in reference to the goddess Parvati (Shiva's wife).
